ARTIST: Del Water Gap
SONG: “Cut The Rope”
HOMETOWN: Sharon, Connecticut
CURRENT LOCATION: Brooklyn, New York
AMBITIONS: Grow a whole lot of food, cook a whole lot of food, and read enough books to fill four walls of bookshelves. Become a better writer. Release compelling records that outlive me and everyone I know.
TURN-OFFS: Texting and people who talk about how old they feel.
TURN-ONS: Nice paper, tap water, steak, bodega coffee, and going bananas.
DREAM GIG: Being the Pips to Bjork’s Gladys Knight; matinee show at Harpa in Reykjavik.
FAVORITE LYRIC: “Wadin’ through the waste stormy winter / and there’s not a friend to help you through / tryin’ to stop the waves behind your eyeballs / drop your reds, drop your greens and blues.”
SONG I WISH I WROTE: “Cracker Jack” by Dolly Parton
5 PEOPLE I’D MOST LIKE TO HAVE DINNER WITH: Gillian Welch, Abraham Lincoln, Auguste Rodin, Nikola Tesla, and my grandfather.
MY FAVORITE CONCERT EXPERIENCE: I saw a Sandy Benefit a few years back at St. Ann’s & the Holy Trinity Church in Brooklyn Heights. This Franciscan monk named Brother Max introduced Devendra Banhart, Real Estate, Cass McCombs, Vampire Weekend, The Dirty Projects, and The Walkmen, who all played stripped down sets through a two-speaker PA system on a makeshift stage by the altar. Devendra had just cut his hair and all, but he stole my heart. Hamilton Leithauser’s kids were running around. Despite the heavyweight lineup, the show was one of the most relaxed and unassuming concerts I have ever been to.
I WROTE THIS SONG BECAUSE… someone had to do it.
