ARTIST: David Newbould
SONG: Always Coming Home
BIRTHDATE: June 10
HOMETOWN: Toronto
CURRENT LOCATION: Nashville
AMBITIONS: Creating more time to work harder and expand my audience. Attaining some miniature semblance of financial security. Spoiling grandkids in my golden years. I know – they all contradict!
TURN-OFFS: Success based on crap, turducken
TURN-ONS: Inspiration, new audiences, home life with my wife, noodles.
DREAM GIG: 200 paid dates a year with The Stowaways (my band).
FAVORITE LYRIC: “At the end of every hard earned day people find some reason to believe” (Bruce Springsteen)
CRAZIEST PERSON I KNOW: I stopped kissing and telling a long time ago.
SONG I WISH I WROTE: So much groundbreaking music out there. One song? “El Paso”, “Tecumseh Valley”, “It’s Too Late” “Cortez The Killer”, “The Promise”, “My Generation”, “Coney Island Baby”, “Lover, You Should Have Come Over”. That’s one, right?
5 PEOPLE I’D MOST LIKE TO HAVE DINNER WITH: Pre-meal drinks: The Rolling Stones. Dinner: John Hammond, Ahmet Ertegun, Irving Azoff, Bill Graham, Mario Batali (he prepared it). Dessert: My beautiful late great Aunt Marie.
MY FAVORITE CONCERT EXPERIENCE: This is an easy 5 way tie:
Opening for Joe Ely Band, Nashville 2011…one of my favorite troubadours from one of my favorite states.
My farewell gig to Austin TX at Momo’s in 2010, with every musical friend I’d accumulated over 7 years on the stage…very emotional, and so much heart was in that room.
Attending 4 nights of 15 night stand – Bruce Springsteen & E Street Band reunion tour, Meadowlands NJ, July/Aug 1999…never thought I’d get to see them live – when they announced reunion and tickets went on sale I bought as many shows as I could afford. Proud of this!
Every Jon Dee Graham/James McMurtry Wednesday residency I’ve been to at Continental Club, Austin TX (too many to count).
Seeing The Replacements this summer in Chicago with my wife. Much passion.
I WROTE THIS SONG: “Long Way Down”, with Dan Baird. Dan was working on songs to finish his new album. A mutual friend suggested he and I get together. We wrote 4 songs. This was the last one. I showed up and he said he didn’t know what to do with this riff but he was passionate about making it work. We got the song. It rocks. That means a lot to me.
