Late ’60s themes of freedom and migration blend nicely with the ‘new Nashville’ ethos. “I’ve Been Around” is a McCartney-inspired ‘moving on’ tune from Pittsburgh-turned-Tennessee transplants Bear Cub.

ARTIST: Bear Cub (answers are from band leader Jesse Hall)

SONG: I’ve Been Around

BIRTHDATE: Bear Cub – March, 2010 Jesse Hall – 4/3/82

HOMETOWN: Pittsburgh, PA

CURRENT LOCATION: Nashville, TN

AMBITIONS: To gain enough Nashville notoriety that when I tell people my band is called Bear Cub, that they don’t confuse us with a band in town called Wild Cub, and say “yeah man, I’ve been hearing about your band”.

TURN-OFFS: People that say “Sunday Funday,” People that act like they don’t like The Beatles

TURN-ONS: Hot chicken when I’m hungover, Vintage Motorcycles, acoustic guitars with songs in them, new guitar strings, good denim, long solo motorcycle rides through the country, People that still believe in the Pittsburgh Pirates, Pittsburgh sports fans in general, my girlfriend.

DREAM GIG: Paul McCartney’s next wedding.

STARTED PLAYING MUSIC: Started learning guitar when I was 18

FAVORITE LYRIC: In one of my favorite songs of all time, “Anna Begins”, Adam Duritz of Counting Crows sings “Every time she sneezes I believe it’s love”. I love that line and his delivery of it more each time that I listen. Kills me.

CRAZIEST PERSON I KNOW: One of my favorite people: first name Levi, last name omitted. He is a brilliant, brilliant writer, and brilliant person in general. He is also quietly one of the craziest people I’ve met, and I dig it.

SONG I WISH I WROTE: “Happy Birthday”. Because money.

5 PEOPLE I’D MOST LIKE TO HAVE DINNER WITH: (I am going living or dead, mostly dead) Paul McCartney, Harry Nilsson, John Lennon, Richard Brautigan, Frank Sinatra.
