It’s 1888 and while little are known about Anabots to those on the periphery of government circles, rumors swirl of inventions that are half robot, half human, made to blend in with society for time travel. The Anabot you see here is the first successful model engineered in England, the prototype. She is not made to be a part of humanity, but instead blend in with it: not feel emotions, but emulate them…until her software goes haywire on a mission and she mysteriously begins to feel things…regret, anger, and even (dare she say?) love. She feels human, but is not. Is robot, but feels not. Caught between these two forms, and attempting to shield these changes from The Engineer (her creator), she tries to conduct her missions normally in spite of her newly engendered feelings.
ARTIST: Anabot
SONG: “Candy-Eyed”
BIRTHDATE: August Third, Nineteen Eighty-Eight
HOMETOWN: Boulder, Colorado
CURRENT LOCATION: Los Angeles, California
AMBITIONS: Create a full-fledged story for the time-traveling robot character, Anabot, through film, comics, and song. I have this dream where each album is a story, a different decade, and the music videos, comics, and tour themes are the connective tissue of that story. Also, on a completely different note, I would love to be a voice actor someday. I have a deep desire to be the voice of a Disney princess!
TURN-OFFS: Arrogance, passive-aggressiveness, ignorance, and goat cheese
TURN-ONS: Compassion, openness, a willingness to see the world with a sense of wonder, goofiness, classical music, boy guitarists, girl bassists, suits, and bacon
DREAM GIG: Red Rocks or Royal Albert Hall. Red Rocks because it’s my dream venue from my home state (of course!). Royal Albert Hall because ROYAL ALBERT HALL.
FAVORITE LYRIC: “Dogs love me ’cause I’m crazy sniffable.” – Beastie Boys, “The Move”
CRAZIEST PERSON I KNOW: When I first moved to LA, I became fast friends with my coworkers at this restaurant and the ring leader of this band of misfits was my dear friend, Sarah. I wouldn’t call her crazy at all, but there would always be antics around her and she always seemed to be the calm in the center of the chaos. So I would call that being the master of crazy, rather than the provider. And in the best way, of course.
SONG I WISH I WROTE: Too many. Right now though would be “Pilgrim” by Mø
5 PEOPLE I’D MOST LIKE TO HAVE DINNER WITH: Lucille Ball, Madeline Kahn, David Bowie, Mozart, J.K Rowling
MY FAVORITE CONCERT EXPERIENCE: My first No Doubt concert in 2002. I was an impressionable young lady teen and the lineup was The Distillers – Garbage – No Doubt. Three amazing front women all with different styles and I was so taken with each one. It was my first solidifying moment of knowing…YES, this is what I want to do, and also the voice saying, “YES, you CAN do it. You have it in you, kid.” I was absolutely blown away and revved up.
