The event is being held at Brooklyn’s BRIC Arts and Media Space with guitarist/songwriter/producer Blake Mills serving as the evening’s bandleader and performances by Karen O & Nick Zinner (of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs), Lucius, Smokey Hormel, Kaki King, Marc Ribot and other special guests.

100% of donations from “Music Make You” will go directly to the Foundation’s partner programs, courtesy of D’Addario & Company, a global leader in the string and musical instrument accessories industry, who cover all of the administrative costs for the Foundation to ensure that thousands of children have access to the transformative impact that music can have on education and well being.

While there is growing evidence that studying music enables children to overcome social, emotional and cognitive barriers, there remains limited access to affordable, quality music instruction and the arts are often marginalized in the public education system in favor of tested subjects like reading and math. Forty percent of high schools in the U.S. do not require coursework in music or arts to graduate, 55% percent don’t have a certified music teacher and 58% of schools lack the resources to implement a music program.

For over thirty years the D’Addario Foundation has supported diverse community-based programs that address specific needs in the poorest and most underserved communities. Each year the Foundation supports hundreds of programs – in 33 of the poorest cities in America and 50 countries around the world – and it is fiercely devoted to the belief that access to music will make a child’s life immeasurably better.

The D’Addario Foundation has become a global leader in finding, funding, and partnering with the most transformative music education organizations in the world. As grant makers, they provide support to programs that are not just teaching music but elevating quality of life and strengthening disadvantaged communities.
