Crosby, Stills And Nash Get Back to the Garden With “Demos”

If you can remember the 60’s, then you weren’t really there. Which makes no sense, but hippies will say all kinds of crazy shit.

Crosby, Stills, and Nash may or may not remember writing and recording all of their classic 60s hits, but thankfully, somebody remembered to roll tape and preserve the demos of one of the greatest bands of the Age of Aquarius era.

On June 18th, Rhino will releases Crosby, Stills & Nash Demos. The album will include early versions of “Marrakesh Express,” “Almost Cut My Hair,” “You Don’t Have To Cry,” “Deja Vu,” “Sleep Song,” “My Love Is A Gentle Thing,” “Be Yourself,” “Music Is Love,” “Singing Call,” “Long Time Gone,” “Chicago” and “Love The One You’re With.”

One cut predates the full band, with only and Crosby and Stills performing (“Long Time Gone,”), while others are actually Crosby and Stills solo takes (“Almost Cut My Hair,” “My Love is a Gentle Thing.”)

“It’s fascinating stuff,” Graham Nash, who co-produced the album, tells Billboard.com. “On some of these songs you really hear us becoming a band, trying out different ideas in our songwriting and singing and harmonies. It really is a time capsule.”

The Demos album will be released in conjunction with Crosby, Stills and Nash’s June 18 induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. The band will tour the US and Europe this summer.

CSN are currently recording an album of cover songs with producer Rick Rubin.
