Australian singer-songwriter Courtney Barnett has released her contribution to Third Man Records’ Blue Series, “Boxing Day Blues (Revisited).”
Videos by American Songwriter
The song was recorded and produced at Third Man Records in Nashville by label founder Jack White while Barnett was on tour earlier this year. It’s a reprise of the acoustic ballad “Boxing Day Blues,” the closing track to Barnett’s debut album Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit.
This single doesn’t share much similarity to its predecessor, as it features electric guitar and new lyrics. However, it still features Barnett’s trademark quirky, melancholy lyricism and a strong melody, to match.
The 7″ single is out today on Third Man Records, with a cover of “Shivers” by the Birthday Party, the Australian post-punk project that featured Nick Cave and Rowland S. Howard. You can stream both tracks below via Barnett’s label, Milk Records.
