After moving to Nashville at age 19 to pursue a career in country music, Carly Pearce’s breakthrough finally came with her 2017 debut Every Little Thing. Now the 34-year-old Kentucky native has a trophy case full of ACM, CMA and GRAMMY Awards. However, it hasn’t all been smooth sailing for the “What He Didn’t Do” singer since then. In June 2020, Pearce split from fellow country singer Michael Ray after just eight months of marriage. She chronicled the divorce on her 2021 EP 29 with emotionally raw tunes like “Day One” and Messy.” Four years after her marriage ended, Pearce says she is feeling “very optimistic about love” on her latest album, Hummingbird. Recently, the “I Hope You’re Happy Now” hitmaker gently encouraged her fans to get on board with this latest chaptter.

Not Every Song Is About Her Past Marriage
Recently, Carly Pearce hopped onto Instagram Stories to connect with fans through an “AMA” (Ask Me Anything.”) In response to one user’s question, the Grand Ole Opry member said the biggest misconception about her is that she’s “not over her divorce” from Michael Ray.
“It’s been super hard to feel like every song I write since that very public situation is being attached that relationship, when in reality—that couldn’t be further from the truth,” wrote the country artist. “I’ve had relationships since then that I pull inspo from & even story lines that are just important to me in general.”
Pearce pointed out that she scored her first hit with the heartbreak ballad “Every Little Thing.” She released that song in 2017—a full year before confirming her relationship with Ray.
“I’ve moved on and wish everyone could, too,” Pearce concluded, adding a white heart emoji.
