CMJ Music Marathon: Day 4

Metronomy

Opening the afternoon at the Fader Fort, Metronomy performed an abbreviated set of highlights from their acclaimed latest album The English Riviera. Though not technically a part of CMJ, smoothly executed renditions of “The Bay” and “She Wants” from the UK-based synth-pop project were welcome additions to the week’s live music.

Grimes

Although admittedly still working on her live show, Grimes showed a strong work in progress at the Fader Fort. With her eclectic electronic sound, the Montreal artist displayed promise for more polished performances in the future.

Pepper Rabbit

At the Music Hall of Williamsburg, Pepper Rabbit kicked things off with their sweet indie pop. With their last show of the year, the Los Angeles band celebrated their August-released sophomore album, Red Velvet Snow Ball.

Active Child

Following Pepper Rabbit, Active Child graced the stage with lush harp melodies. His rich, delicately-crafted sound gave him a resonating presence, supporting his upwards trajectory since the release of his debut LP You Are All I See.

Jonquil

A few blocks away at Spike Hill in Brooklyn, Jonquil’s vibrant guitar pop brightened things up for anyone suffering from CMJ day 4 fatigue. The Oxford, England band provided a breath of fresh air with songs like “Get Up” from their One Hundred Suns EP, as well as performing new material.

Drop The Lime

With the show starting at 2:00 a.m., Drop The Lime, aka Luca Venezia, was ready for CMJ’s more sleep-averse attendees. The native New Yorker fleshed out his rockabilly-meets-dance sound with a full band for a slick and stylish performance at Mercury Lounge.
