“I’d have your husband killed to see you naked,” sings Nashville songwriter Evan P. Donohue on his latest song “One Glance.” Usually prone to power-pop, Donohue was challenged by a friend to write an “Americana”-style song, and “One Glance” was his answer to that challenge.
Donohue can be seen recording the track with his 1966 Martin 018 at Nashville’s famed Quonset Hut, with an impressive crew of local talent: Jeremy Fetzer on guitar (Deep Vibration, Caitlin Rose, Andrew Combs) Spencer Cullum, Jr. on pedal steel (Jonny Corndawg) Jeff Cullum on bass, and David Krohn on drums (Kopecky Family Band).
“Writing was a real struggle because I had the chord progression and the line about killing someone’s husband to see them naked,” says Donohue. “I knew how powerful the two could be together, but it was a delicate process preparing the listener with the first couple verses. I needed solidarity and deliberation, which is why it had to be written on a Martin.”
