Videos by American Songwriter
“My work has always been about judging the distance between American reality and the American dream,” Bruce Springsteen explains in this video tribute, which aired during the MusiCares gala last Friday night.
Honored at the 2013 Musicares Person of the Year, Springsteen was the star of the annual event. He answered questions, auctioned off a 1952 Telecaster (which sold for $250,000, after Springsteen threw in a one-hour guitar lesson, a ride on his motorcycle, a backstage tour and a tray of his mother’s homemade lasagna) and watched as his peers took the stage to perform their favorite Springsteen songs. Mumford & Sons tackled “I’m on Fire.” John Legend turned “Dancing in the Dark” into a piano ballad. Neil Young and Crazy Horse ripped into “Born in the USA” like a veteran punk band.
The evening ended with a encore of sorts: a short set by the Boss, who played three songs before welcoming the other bands back to the stage for an all-star version of “Glory Days.”
