Under the Southern star, I heal all of my scars, Brent Cobb sings on his latest single and title track of his forthcoming album, Southern Star.

The country singer-songwriter knows there’s no place like home and often looks to the cosmos for direction back to the land that informs him and his music. “You know how when you’re growing up, you’re told that if you ever get lost out there, look for the northern star to help find direction back home?,” the “Keep ‘Em on They Toes” artist shared in a statement. “Well, I’m from Georgia. So, I always look for the southern star.” In his forthcoming album, listeners can now join him on that journey southward.
Southern Star is a product of his upbringing, resulting in a 10-track celebration of the South and the way the region has shaped music across genres. “Historically and presently that place also happens to be the same place that cultivated a good many of the most influential artists in the whole world of music,” Cobb continued. “Music as we know it would not exist without the American South. It’s funky and sentimental. It’s simple and complex.”
Hear the influences of the artist’s home in the album’s title track and the first taste of new music since his 2022 gospel collection, And Now, Let’s Turn To Page… “Southern Star” itself is a down-home and heartfelt tune, accompanied by a music video of the artist doing something as simple as making greens and cornbread in between shots in the studio.
Southern Star is set for release on Sept. 22.
