Boston Dynamics is an American engineering and robotics design company whose mission is to imagine and create exceptional robots that enrich people’s lives, according to their website.
“This is incredible! BOSTON DYNAMICS created a team of robots just to recreate THE ROLLING STONES’ video to START ME UP,” shared best-selling author James Leighton on Twitter,
Check out the video below. In it, a bird-like robot moves like Jagger. A video of the robot is put side to side with Jagger, who is known for his spastic, unique movements. Head shakes, singing (down to the movements of the mouth). And then more robots come in to represent the rest of the band.
To some, this is a wild video and even a bit scary. Why do people keep creating robots that will seemingly replace humans? Some, like philosophers Sam Vaknin, think it’s humanity’s desire to eradicate ourselves through technology. It’s an inevitable spiral toward creating our own successors.
Well, perhaps we do it for entertainment purposes—in the short term at least. Watching the video sure is mesmerizing.
