U2 weren’t kidding when they said they were writing a Spider-Man musical. The Broadway show, directed by Julie Taymor and now going under the name Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark,  will officially open on February 18, 2010; tickets go on sale September 12. Bono and the Edge provide the music and the lyrics.

You can visit the official website, where you’ll find a video with Bono (who sees himself in the Green Goblin) and the Edge discussing the project.

“Every rock & roll star probably started out as the geek who got bullied on in school,” says Edge, “and eventually their form of revenge was to write songs or learn to play guitar.”

Says Bono: “We were eager to mess with all these aspects of pop culture, put them in a blender and see what comes out on the other end.”
