2004 Bob Dylan Performance with Jack White Highlights New Third Man Records Vinyl Vault Package

A rare live 2004 collaboration between Bob Dylan and Jack White will get its first official release as part of the 58th installment of the Third Man Records label’s Vault vinyl series, which will be available exclusively to Vault subscribers.

The Vault Package #58: The White Stripes – Live in Las Vegas features a three-LP set capturing a September 2003 performance by White’s old group at Vegas venue The Joint, and a seven-inch single that includes a recording of Dylan and White teaming up for a live version of The White Stripes’ “Ball and Biscuit.”

The collaboration took place at a March 17, 2004, at a Dylan concert in Detroit, and the performance has never been commercially available before, although bootleg recordings have made their way online. The flip side of the single features The White Stripes’ first-ever live performance of “Ball and Biscuit,” recorded at a May 2, 2002, show. “Ball and Biscuit” is from the duo’s 2003 studio album, Elephant.

The Las Vegas concert featured performances of 31 songs, including White Stripes gems like “Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground,” “Seven Nation Army,” “The Hardest Button to Button,” “We’re Going to Be Friends,” and “Fell In Love with a Girl.” It also featured covers of such tunes as Buddy Holly’s “Not Fade Away,” Son House’s “Death Letter,” Burt Bacharach and Hal David’s “I Just Don’t Know What to Do with Myself,” “Mary Had a Little Lamb,” and Leadbelly’s “Boll Weevil.”

An original vinyl pressing of Live in Las Vegas was given away to 40 fans who were flown to the Vegas show as part of a promotion launched by The White Stripes old label, V2 Records. The Vault Package #58 celebrates the 20th anniversary of the concert, and marks the first commercial release of Live in Las Vegas.

The package will feature three LPs, pressed on red, white and black 180-gram vinyl, and the seven-inch single, pressed on red-sparkle vinyl; as well as a patch, a bumper sticker, and art prints by frequent White Stripes collaborator Rob Jones.
