When it comes to the Black Crowes, it’s either feast or famine. Either they’re breaking up or swapping members, or they’re touring with Jimmy Page and releasing double albums. 2009 will fall into the latter category for the veteran roots rockers, who first arrived on the scene in 1990 with Shake Your Money Maker. The band will release their latest studio album, Before the Frost, on September 1. Those who purchase the record will receive a code for a free download of yet another album of fresh Crowes material, ...Untill the Freeze, which also contains a cover of Stephen Stills’ “So Many Times.”

The twin albums were recorded at Levon Helms’ Woodstock studios, and were cut in front of a small studio audience of lucky fans. Paul Stacey, who produced the band’s previous two albums, Lost Crowes and War Paint, served as producer for both discs. Audiophiles can also buy the two new albums in a single vinyl version.

The band will tour with Levon Helm this summer.

Said singer Chris Robinson, “I think we fulfilled a musical commitment to continue on the golden road of artistic independence. Approaching 20 years into our careers, we still are ambitious enough to push ourselves to create something unique that we have never done before.”
