It’s official: Canadians hate Billy Bob Thornton.

The actor/musician had to cancel his Canadian tour after inflaming it’s citizens’ national pride during a disastrous radio interview. On April 8, during an interview with Jian Ghomeshi of the CBC, Thornton refused to answer questions properly after Ghomeshi mentioned his acting career on air, pleading ignorance and resorting to non sequiturs. He also made this unfortunate comment: “Canadian audiences seem to be very reserved. We tend to play places where people throw things at each other. Here, they just sort of sit there. And it doesn’t matter what you say to ’em. … It’s mashed potatoes but no gravy.”
If you look someone in the eyes and promise them something, and you don’t do it, you don’t get the interview,” Mr. Thornton said afterward, explaining his strange behavior.
At a concert at Massey Hall the next day opening for Willie Nelson, Thornton and his band the Boxmasters were booed off stage by hecklers, who shouted “here comes the gravy.” With pressures mounting, Thornton cancelled the rest of the tour, blaming “the flu” in a post on his official website.
