Megan Moroney is no stranger to a playful song. A healthy amount of her discography is made up of songs that’ll bring a knowing smile to the listener’s face. She tows the line between being seriously candid and masking her intention with a joke. In the end, she’s left with a song that plays well with audiences for a number of reasons.

One such song is “Nothin’ Crazy.” This collaborative track with Mackenzie Carpenter is a nod to the “crazy” things we all do in the name of love. Sometimes we just get swept up and our actions follow suit. Learn more about the meaning behind this song, below.

Behind the Meaning of Megan Moroney and Mackenzie Carpenter’s “Nothin’ Crazy”
Well, he told me
He doesn’t want a crazy girl, too obsessive
Just like his exes
I said I get it
Let’s take it slow, see where it goes
There’s no commitment, I’m different
Moroney sets herself up in this song to be a girl different from the rest. When her new love interest tells her he wants a girl that’s a little less crazy than the one’s he has known in the past, she steps up to the plate and promises to be just that. But, of course, love gets in the way of that goal. One kiss and Moroney is ready to let her crazy out.
But the way he kissed me goodnight / Made me never wanna say goodbye / I guess I lied, she sings.
‘Cause I’m picking out a white dress and picket fences
Got the whole thing planned in a board on Pinterest
Heard he’s got a little bit of family money
Trust me, didn’t know he had a trust fund, honey
I can’t wait for our second date
Maybe he’ll show up with his grandma’s ring
‘Til then I’ll be spending time naming our dogs and babies
You know, nothin’ crazy
In the chorus she reveals what’s really going on in her head. She’s head over heels, ready to start planning the wedding day after the first date. We’ve all let our hearts get a little ahead of our minds. She closes out the chorus with a play on the song title: ‘Til then I’ll be spending time naming our dogs and babies / You know, nothin’ crazy.
Anyone who falls in love too fast will be able to find a piece of themselves in this song. Carpenter’s verse is equally as amusing as she riffles through his drawers and calls his mom on the phone. Though we might not like to admit it, there is a little crazy in all of us–and it is often brought out by the prospect of love.

I called his mama
I got her number off his phone while he was sleeping
See her this weekend
In his dresser
Underneath the Under Armour, found a letter
Hmm, who’s Heather?
They say, ya know when you know
And I know this one’s gonna last
No such thing as too fast
