Beck announced last week that he is working with French actress/singer Charlotte Gainsbourg on her upcoming album. He said that he has been working with the artist, the daughter of legendary French musician Serge Gainsbourg and actress/singer Jane Birkin, in both LA and her hometown of Paris.

“I was supposed to work on her last album but I couldn’t get over there,” Beck said on KCRW’s radio show Morning Becomes Eclectic. “Now I’m working on her follow-up record.” Had he appeared on her last release 5:55, which came out in 2006, he would have joined an impressive list of contributors including Air, Jarvis Cocker, Irish singer/songwriter Neil Hannon, and his own father David Campbell, who wrote string arrangements for the album. Other than saying he is collaborating on the record, Beck failed to reveal any more details, leaving a potential release date and track listing up in the air.

While this will only be Gainsbourg’s third album in her over 20-year career as a musician, she has been very prolific as an actress, appearing in over thirty films, including the 2007 Bob Dylan Biopic I’m Not There, for which she also recorded a cover of Dylan’s “Just Like a Woman.”

After wrapping up a tour at the end of September, Beck seems to be laying low for the time being, with only a slew of shows in Japan in March of 2009 on the radar.
