Former president Barack Obama has released his annual summer lists of music and books he’s been loving so far, and, as usual, the choices are diverse and varied. Like the rest of the world, he’s deeply entrenched in Brat Summer, choosing songs from pop girlies Charli XCX and Billie Eilish. He’s also been into nostalgic music as well, adding songs from Blackstreet, the Supremes, and the Rolling Stones.

Barack Obama Proves He’s Hip With Current Trends (Or His Daughters Give Him Music Recommendations)
When posting his playlist, Barack Obama even called himself out for the usual eclectic mix of songs. First on the list is Shaboozey’s No. 1 hit “A Bar Song (Tipsy).” In the same vein of R&B/pop artists going country, the former president included Beyoncé’s “Texas Hold ‘Em” as well.
Among recent tracks, there was Charli XCX’s “365” from her new album Brat, which presidential candidate Kamala Harris has also been loving. He also included “CHIHIRO” by Billie Eilish, which was featured on her recent album Hit Me Hard and Soft; “My Best” by Saweetie; “Bad Boy” by Chris Jedi, Dei V, and Gaby Music; “YAYO” by Rema; “Symptom of Life” by Willow; and “Wanna Be” by GloRilla and Megan Thee Stallion.
Of course, Obama is also about the classics. He included “No Diggity” by Blackstreet and Queen Pen; “I Live the Life I Love, I Love the Life I Live” by Hubert Sumlin and Keith Richards; “You’ve Really Got a Hold On Me” by The Miracles; “Wednesday Night Prayer Meeting” by Charles Mingus; and “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” by the Rolling Stones.
Now, there’s the possibility that Obama is simply getting music recommendations from his 26 and 23-year-old daughters. That would explain how he’s so up with current trends. However, there’s something charming about considering that the former president may just be exploring recent music on his own and finding he likes it.
