How can I get my song to a publisher or an artist?

Most publishers and labels do not accept “unsolicited material” (material they have not requested). Publishers will normally listen to something only if it is recommended to them by an individual or organization they already trust in the industry or it is material they have requested personally.

As a writer you must build relationships with industry professionals . ASCAP, BMI, SESAC, NSAI and other professional organizations offer workshops and events that will help guide you as well. These workshops can often get you face time with decision makers. Learn the decision makers before traveling to music towns like (but not exclusive to) Los Angeles, New York or Nashville. Perform at writers nights as much as possible and co-write with others. All of these steps and help to give you the opportunity to establish yourself in the music business. Once the connection has been made you still need to follow basic business principles and “ask” before sending any material.
