Yesterday Steve Jobs unveiled the latest product updates over at Apple. In addition to releasing new versions of the wildly popular iPod, Jobs announced Apple’s updates for their music downloading service iTunes.

As far as iPods go, nothing has changed too drastically. Updates to the iPod touch include a built in speaker, built in volume control, and a sturdier metal case. Prices have dropped for the iPod touch, ranging from $229 for an 8-gig to $399 for the 32-gig.

iPod nanos have changed their shape yet again, looking more like their original long, skinny counterparts. Nanos will also feature motion sensors (similar to those used on the iPhone and iPod touch) that allow photographs to be viewed vertically or horizontally depending on how the user holds the device. Nanos now come in 8-gig and 16-gig capacity.

Fans of the venerable iPod classic should snatch one up while they still can, as the only model still available is the 160-gig (my personal favorite), which will eventually be phased out, too.

All you iPhone users out there, fear not-Jobs also announced a software update for iPhone that will provide for longer battery life. The update will be available for download this Friday.

As for the changes to iTunes, new features will include HD television shows for download ($2.99/episode), built in voice-over, and smarter browsing. The biggest new addition to iTunes, however, is Genius-a built-in algorithm that groups like artists together and creates playlists based on collected data.
Following Jobs’ address, Jack Johnson, the number one male iTunes artist of all time (yes, you read that correctly), performed songs from his new album Sleep Through the Static.
