We first caught wind of The Deslondes years ago at SXSW, when they were playing a dive bar in East Austin called The White Horse following a set by New Orleans compadres Hurray for the Riff Raff. Since then, the group has kicked up the dust in dives all over the country, earning themselves a reputation as on of the most buzzed about roots acts in this great land.

Weeks ago, they rolled into the American Songwriter office and performed an old Washington Phillips gospel number called “What Are They Doing In Heaven Today?” Joining the band is Matt Davidson, the fiddle player from TWAIN, who grew up singing gospel with Sam Doores of the Deslondes back in John Steinbeck country.
