The Allman Brothers Band are three nights into a 15-night residency at New York’s Beacon Theatre. The classic rock vets have been playing extended runs at the Beacon since 1989, and to celebrate their 20th anniversary with the club, the Allmans have been pulling in some high caliber guests.
Night one featured Taj Mahal, and Levon Helm, who lead the band through “The Weight,” “Ophelia,” and “I Shall Be Released.” On night two, the Allmans were joined by Johnny Winter and David Hilgado of Los Lobos. Last night, the band got a visit from Buddy Guy and, fresh from their multi-night Hampton, Virginia reunion shows, Phish’s Trey Anastasio and Page McConnell. The jam-friendly duo pitched in on “Southbound,” “I Know You Rider,” and “In Memory of Elizabeth Reed.”
Upcoming guests include Eric Clapton and Boz Scaggs, and several more are expected to be announced (or just drop in.) You can purchase live streaming video of the entire run of shows for $125 at moogis.com, the concert website owned by Allmans drummer Butch Trucks.
