In conjunction with the news of the tour, Union Station has announced a new addition to its lineup. Singer/guitarist Russell Moore, the award-winning frontman of the chart-topping bluegrass group IIIrd Tyme Out, is now a member of Union Station. The band’s current lineup also features longtime guitarist/banjo player Ron Block, bassist Barry Bales, Dobro player/lap-steel guitarist Jerry Douglas.

In 2024, Douglas was inducted into the Bluegrass Hall of Fame. Krauss previously was inducted in 2021.

Krauss and Moore Comment About the Upcoming Tour

Krauss and Moore issued statements about the upcoming tour with Union Station, and the group’s new recording project.

“I’m so grateful to get to make music again with my comrades of 40 years,” Alison said. “They’ve always accomplished incredible work individually and have been constantly traveling because of it. We’re very inspired to experience this new exciting chapter in the band’s history.”

Moore commented, “To say I’m excited about recording and touring with Alison Krauss & Union Station would be a huge understatement. After 40 years of playing music full-time and leading my own group for 34 years, this opportunity is among the few things at the top of the list that my music career has offered me.”

He added, “My hopes and desires are to fill this spot in [Alison Krauss & Union Station] with the same professionalism, precision, and thoughtfulness as other members who have held this position before me, and I’m looking forward to the ‘ride’!”

Krauss’ Recent Musical Endeavors

In 2022, 2023, and 2024, Krauss toured with famed Led Zeppelin singer Robert Plant in support of their 2021 collaborative album, Raise the Roof. Alison recently contributed guest vocals to “Thankful,” a song that will appear on Beatles drummer Ringo Starr’s upcoming country album, Look Up.

The track was released as an advance single from the album, which is due out on January 10, 2025.
