Kacey Johansing’s gorgeous, downbeat new album Grand Ghosts hits stores tomorrow. A former member of the San Francisco indie band Geographer, Johansing has collaborated with tUnE-yArDs, Thao & Mirah and Sean Hayes in recent years. Grand Ghosts is the followup to her debut solo album, Many Seasons, and melds classical and jazz influences to an already potent pop-folk stew.
“Recently a friend gave me the best compliment anyone has given me about Grand Ghosts and called it a ‘classic’ album,” Johansing tells us. “That meant a great deal to me . . . it has always been a goal of mine to make music that is authentic and albums that are timeless.”
