Peaceful Beasts in an Ocean of Weeds, the debut EP from folk duo Blessed Feathers, is available for advance streaming at American Songwriter. Recorded in a barn and scheduled for release next Tuesday, it’s a collection of woodsy, atmospheric songs about everyday life in southeastern Wisconsin, where members Donivan Berube and Jacquelyn Beaupre live.

The two songwriters met while working at a restaurant in West Bend, Wisconsin. Berube, who’d learned the guitar while growing up in Florida, was new to town, and Beaupre, a folksinger with a haunting coo of voice, was in need of a producer. What began as a working relationship grew into something more, with Berube and Beaupre eventually becoming romantic and musical partners. Some things never change, though, and the couple still works at that same restaurant, slinging up home-cooked food to strangers whenever their musical habits allow.
