Album Premiere: Willy Mason, Carry On

We’re proud to debut Carry On, the latest album from singer-songwriter Willy Mason. Mason counts alt-country patriarch Steve Earle among his biggest fans. “I think the best young songwriter out there is Willy Mason,” Earle opined recently, “and I hope we see more out of him than we’ve seen. He released a couple of records, he’s way better known in England than he is over here but he lives in Martha’s Vineyard. He doesn’t get off the island enough.”

Carry On, Mason’s first album in six years, should remedy that. It’s due on August 20 from Communion Records, the label co-founded by Mumford & Sons’ Ben Lovett. Mason will appear with Mumford & Sons this summer on their latest Gentelmen of the Road tour.

“This album was written in a damp shack during a winter when it seemed like the whole world was falling down, or at least shifting its stance,” Mason tells American Songwriter. “The songs were written in and about the in-betweens of the universe and the recording process was an effort to summon the sacred dragon of electricity and ride its coattails to the great spirit. We rode pretty high and we all seem to have survived the fall.”
