Video Exclusive: Bad Books Cover Grandaddy’s “Now It’s On”

Bad Books combine 4/5ths of indie rockers Manchester Orchestra with indie-folk hero Kevin Devine. This year, they put out their sophomore album “II” and performed at Austin City Limits. Watch them pay homage to Grandaddy, one of the best indie bands of the Oughts, with a cover of the Sumday single “Now It’s On” below.

“Grandaddy is one of the bands on which we all agree,” Devine tells American Songwriter. “In particular, ‘Now It’s On’ always struck me as one of their very best moments, a perfect snapshot of his twisted sunlight sound. The colloquial way he sings these opaque suggestions makes the unknowable seem familiar, a neat trick. I love the melody, the arrangement, the weird ear candy bells & whistles layered and lying around. I always cover songs I wish I wrote, and this is one.”
