Amazon’s new digital music service will be teaming up with two kings of pop, Pepsi and Justin Timberlake in a collaborative ad campaign for this year’s Super Bowl XLII. Pepsi made a similar effort with Apple in 2004 for the Big Game when they offered 100 million free songs to the public. Yet their efforts only resulted in 5 million of the songs being redeemed.

The new promotion, called “Pepsi Stuff,” is rumored to be boasting Justin Timberlake as a frontman in the commercials along with a whopping one billion free downloads. Points will be found on the caps of Pepsi products, with five points equaling one download redeemable at Amazon’s digital music service site. Labels teaming up with Pepsi include Sony BMG and Warner Entertainment. Universal Music Group turned down the offer due to pricing disagreements with how Amazon would compensate the labels for the free downloads. While Universal Music Group will still offer music on Amazon, their labels will not be included in the promotion.
