Soundgarden’s Surviving Members Reuniting to Perform as Nudedragons at 2024 SMooCH Benefit Concert in Seattle

The surviving members of Soundgarden will perform together under the Nudedragons moniker for the first time in more than 14 years at the 2024 SMooCH benefit concert in Seattle on December 14. The sold-out event, which takes place at the popular venue The Showbox, raises money for Seattle Children’s Hospital.

Soundgarden previously performed under the alias Nudedragons (an anagram for Soundgarden) in 2010, when the band played a surprise gig at The Showbox to mark the start of its reunion after a 13-year hiatus. Guitarist Kim Thayil, bassist Ben Shepherd, and drummer Matt Cameron will play a brief set with Seattle-based vocalist and songwriter Shaina Shepherd at the benefit show.

Shaina Shepherd posted a message on her Instragram page that reads, “The only thing sweeter than singing with [Nudedragons] is giving back with the team at [SMooCH for Kids].”

The lineup for the 13th annual SMooCH concert also features Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan, indie rockers Sebadoh, and Built to Spill frontman Doug Martsch. The event will mark Sebadoh’s first show in almost five years. Martsch’s solo performance will be exclusively for VIP ticket holders during a food and wine event.

The concert raises money for the hospital’s Uncompensated Care Fund, guarantees high-quality medical care “to every child in our region that walks through the doors, regardless of their family’s ability to pay.”

More About Soundgarden

Since the 2017 death of Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell, the remaining members of the band have only played together live a couple of times. In January 2019, the rockers reunited to perform with various guest singers at a star-studded tribute concert for Cornell at The Forum in Inglewood, California.

Then, in August 2021, Thayil, Shepherd, and Cameron all performed with Brandi Carlile at Carlile’s concert at the Gorge Amphitheatre in George, Washington.

Soundgarden released its final studio album, King Animal, in November 2012.

Sadly, Cornell died by suicide on May 18, 2017. He was 52.
