The hub of the American holiday season is without doubt New York City. During NYC’s holiday season, there is a surplus of Christmas activities to indulge in. However, the biggest, grandest, and most memorable attraction is without question the lighting of The Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree. It’s a nearly 100-year-old tradition that is not stopping anytime soon, as it continues with its annual tree lighting tonight.

Hosted by Kelly Clarkson, the lighting ceremony will begin at 8 pm EST and include live music and performers, and generally, a plethora of holiday cheer awfully conducive for a great family viewing experience. It might be an annual event, but be that as it may, this is not something to miss out on if you are a Christmas junkie.
When Will The Lights Go On? Rockefeller Tree Lighting Time
Like many events of this nature, anticipation is everything. Thus, the Christmas tree lights will not be lit at the beginning of the televised special. Rather, the lights will be flipped and their color will grace NYC around 10 pm EST.
The tree will stay lit until mid-January. Furthermore, on Christmas Eve, the tree will remain lit for a full 24 hours. That being so, if you are in NYC, you have more than enough time to go see the 70-foot tree and its 50,000 colorful Christmas lights. Though, if you want to see the thing lit in real time, tune into NBC‘s two-hour special on Peacock tonight.
Before The Lights…
Again, at these types of events, anticipation is everything, so the event planners have given viewers and audience members a show to remember. In addition to Clarkson hosting and performing, there is a laundry list of both old and new faces performing. Those faces include Jennifer Hudson, Dan + Shay, the Backstreet Boys, Megan Hilty, Coco Jones, Little Big Town, RAYE, and Thalia.
Needless to say, there will be no boredom during this two-hour special. Instead, it will be a holiday musical showcase topped off with the lighting of the most infamous and iconic Christmas tree in America, and arguably, the world.
