Over the years, there have been plenty of lounge singers who have put their honeyed voices to holiday songs. But while most of them performed in the early or middle part of the 20th century, there is a new name who has taken up the mantle. Standing tall in the lineage of Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Tony Bennett, and others is the Burnaby, British Columbia-born Michael Bublé.

“It’s Beginning To Look a Lot Like Christmas” from Christmas (2011)
In 2011, Bublé released his holiday album Christmas, and the work rocketed up the top of the charts and hit the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200. At the time, it marked the singer’s third No. 1 album. And today it’s perhaps his best known, even though he’s released several great records of original music, too. The LP opens with this song “It’s Beginning To Look a Lot Like Christmas,” and on it, the satin-voiced singer bounces like flames on a yule log, singing,
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Everywhere you go
Take a look at the five and ten, it’s glistening once again
With candy canes and silver lanes that glow
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Toys in every store
But the prettiest sight to see is the holly that will be
On your own front door
“Santa Claus Is Comin’ to Town” from Christmas (2011)
Also on Bublé’s No. 1 Christmas record, this song is one of excitement. It transports the listener to a time when they were young and the anticipation of presents were on the way. Your mind sees Jolly Ol’ Saint Nick in his sleigh going from rooftop to snowy rooftop bringing his big bag of presents for all the girls and boys. And the butterflies in your stomach begin to flutter. On the tune, Bublé sings,
You better watch out
You better not cry
You better not pout
I’m telling you why
Santa Claus is coming to town
He’s making a list
He’s checking it twice
He’s gonna find out who’s naughty or nice
Santa Claus is coming to town
“A Holly Jolly Christmas” from Christmas (2011)
A third track from Christmas, Bublé offers his signature welcoming, warm voice on this song. He showcases flare and style in that lounge-singer vein. He’s grinning, he’s dancing nimbly on the lyrics, and he’s offering well wishes for all. Singing over a rockabilly-esque guitar, Bublé shines, offering,
Have a holly jolly Christmas
It’s the best time of the year
Now I don’t know if there’ll be snow
But have a cup of cheer
Have a holly jolly Christmas
And when you walk down the street
Say hello to friends you know
And everyone you meet
