4 Songs That Could Be Anthems for Classic Halloween Costumes
1. Frankenstein – “Weird Science” (Oingo Boingo)
We’re starting our list with everyone’s favorite science experiment: Frankenstein. This famed monster has been beloved by generations of trick-or-treaters. If you have decided to fire up your electrodes and transform into Frankenstein this halloween, Oingo Boingo’s “Weird Science” might be the song for you. This warbly, weird song works flawlessly for Halloween–especially when paired with some green face paint and a few screws and bolts.
Plastic tubes and pots and pans
Bits and pieces and the magic from the hand
We’re makin’ weird science, ooh
Things I’ve never seen before
Behind bolted doors, talent and imagination
2. Dracula – “Love Bites” (Def Leppard)
There are many great songs about blood suckers. “Vampire” has been used in many capacities across music history–almost as many times as people have opted to dress up as Dracula for Halloween. If you’ve decided to play undead this holiday, Def Leppard’s “Love Bites” could be your anthem. Though Dracula himself might not have bopped to this one, a cooler, younger version of a vampire surely would’ve toe-tapped to this Leppard hit.
If you’ve got love in your sights
Watch out, love bites
When you make love, do you look in your mirror?
Who do you think of?
3. Witch – “Witchcraft” (Frank Sinatra)
There are countless songs about witches. The dark arts have captured the attention of generations of songwriters. To avoid being too obvious, we’ve chosen Frank Sinatra’s “Witchcraft” as our choice for all the witches and warlock’s out there this Halloween. In this track, Sinatra likens matters of the heart to the mystifying appeal of magic.
Those fingers in my hair
That sly come hither stare
That strips my conscience bare
It’s witchcraft
4. Ghost – “Ghosts” (Stevie Nicks)
Lastly, we have to think of all the kids who’ve thrown a bed sheet over their heads in an effort to become a ghost on Halloween. It’s a classic costume, both in sentiment and ease. Every year a new crop of ghost costumes come around to haunt us. If you’ve joined those ranks this year, check out “Ghost” by Stevie Nicks.
It’s just the ghost of what you really want
And it’s the ghost of the past that you live in
And it’s the ghost of the future you are frightened of
So you look to your guardian angel
