Watch: 10 Years Ago, Allman Brothers Band Performed Their Last Show at the Beacon Theater

Traveling back to October 28, 2014, music lovers packed the Beacon Theater in New York City to watch The Allman Brothers Band perform their last concert. Taking the stage, the band paid tribute to Duane Allman and the success that followed the band throughout the decades. Besides selling millions of albums, the band fashioned iconic songs like “Ramblin’ Man” and “Whipping Post.” With the concert going past midnight, Warren Haynes and Greg Allman once discussed the impact Duane had on the band.

Throughout the concert, The Allman Brothers Band performed songs like “Hot ‘Lanta”, “Ain’t Wastin’ Time No More”, and “Trouble No More.” While the band landed in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame back in 1995, not every moment was great. Back in October 1971, Duane passed away following a motorcycle accident. He was only 24 years old.

While the band mourned the death of a founding member, his brother, Gregg Allman, shared some insight into their relationship. He said, “He gave me hell and drove me crazy quite often.” Although knowing how to get under their skin, Gregg insisted, “He lit a fire under me – and under all of us.”

How Duane Allman Continued To Help The Allman Brothers Band

Understanding the dynamic of the band, Warren Haynes once explained to the Wall Street Journal how Duane remained part of the group even after his passing. “I think Duane’s presence is part of the moment-by-moment journey that this band is still on, both musically and from a vision standpoint.” While not able to add his insight, Haynes continued, “A lot of times, if there’s a musical question the answer somehow relates to what Duane’s approach would be. Musically, he’s very much with us, and always has been.”

While videos of the concert made their way online years ago, fans continue to comment about the impact the Allman Brothers Band had on them. “I especially like the tribute after the show to all the band members – previous and present.  This was and always will be one of my favorite bands.” Another person added, “Love the 57 Gold Top Les Paul, that Derrick is playing. I heard it belonged to Duane Allman and was lost for decades. Not sure how true that last part is. I will truly miss March Madness at The Beacon Theater. Love live “The Brothers”!!”
