Massive Attack Cancels US Tour Dates in 2024 Over “Unforeseen Circumstances”

North American fans of Massive Attack aren’t going to be happy about this one. The English trip hop trio and “Teardrop” hitmakers Massive Attack have suddenly cancelled their US tour in 2024 as of yesterday. The short run of tour dates was slated to start in less than a week. The band has cited “unforeseen circumstances” as the reason behind the cancellation, and there aren’t many more details.

The band took to Instagram to announce the cancellation. Massive Attack was slated to perform in Georgia, Washington D.C., Massachusetts, and New York. They have also canceled their appearance at III Points Festival in Florida on October 19. The performances would have been Massive Attack’s first shows in North America in half a decade.

“Due to unforeseen circumstances, Massive Attack must regrettably cancel their upcoming performance at III Points Festival in Miami, FL on October 19th, as well as their shows in Atlanta GA, Washington DC, Boston MA, and Forest Hills NY,” the now-expired Instagram Story announcement read. “We appreciate your understanding at the time.”

Why Did Massive Attack Cancel Their US Tour?

All we know is that “unforeseen circumstances” are behind the cancellation, and the band has not revealed what exactly happened. Fans are already buzzing about the cancellation, with some saying that they were expecting this to happen.

“So bummed was really looking forward to seeing them although at this point I probably never will,” said one fan on an Instagram repost of the announcement via Stereogum.

“They did this last time around, glad I sat this one out,” said another.

“Sad to read this but sending you all love and light!” said another fan. “I do want to see you in concert so sending good vibes and light.”

As it currently stands, Massive Attack will still perform at M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool, UK on November 29. The entirety of their current tour is part of an effort to cut down on carbon emissions in the music industry. It’s not clear if there are ethical reasons for not traveling to North America for the tour, or if recent extreme weather events are behind the cancellation. No additional details on the cancellation have been provided by the band or their management. It also isn’t clean when and if refunds will be released.
