For Abi Carter, winning American Idol was just a stepping stone to bigger and better things. Since taking home the big win earlier this year, she has continued to perform and record new music. Yesterday (October 8) she took to social media to announce her debut album.

Carter took to social media to deliver a two-part announcement. First, she told fans about the new track she plans to drop next week. Then, she announced her debut album. “’Comfortably Numb’ October 18th. My newest song and one that I am SO PROUD to announce is the next single off my upcoming DEBUT ALBUM Ghosts in the Backyard,” she wrote in the post.

“In 2020, out of sheer and complete boredom during quarantine, I made a bucket list,” she continued. “The very first goal I wrote down was to release an album, despite having no clue how I would ever accomplish that. On November 15 I’ll be able to cross it off my bucket list,” she added. “This album is both a timestamp and a milestone for me, exploring empty relationships, heavy nostalgia, and every up and down that led me to the incredible journey of making music for you. I could cry just thinking about it and I hope this song and album mean as much to you as they do to me,” she concluded.
Abi Carter Has Been Ramping Up to Her Debut Album for Months
After Abi Carter wowed the American Idol judges and audience, she started releasing music. She dropped her first song, “It’s All Love” in March 2024. Her next, “This Isn’t Over” came just two days before the Idol finale aired on May 19.
Since winning Idol, Carter has dropped two additional singles. “Peppermint Sky” dropped in July. Most recently, she released “Some People Need Drugs” last month.
While fans don’t know much about what will be on the album outside of the previously released songs, Carter did share the artists who inspire her in a Q&A session earlier this year. “Some people in the music industry that I think really inspire me are definitely Billie Eilish and artists like Taylor Swift and Manchester Orchestra. I feel like they have such different methods of conveying emotion but they all do it in a way that I feel super inspired by,” she revealed.
