4 of Mick Fleetwood’s Favorite Songs From Fleetwood Mac’s Heyday

In many ways, Mick Fleetwood was the foundation of the folk-rock outfit Fleetwood Mac; he was a big part of its namesake, after all. He’s one of the most beloved drummers of all time, and he still has a soft spot for some of Fleetwood Mac’s songs… even if the time periods in which they were written and released were less than ideal for the band members, including Fleetwood himself. Let’s take a look at four of Mick Fleetwood’s favorite songs from Fleetwood Mac’s discography!

1. “Tusk”

In an interview with Music Radar from years ago, Mick Fleetwood was kind enough to list his favorite songs through the years of Fleetwood Mac. One of his top picks is the title track to the criminally underrated album Tusk. The song was written by Lindsey Buckingham, but Fleetwood enjoyed taking the song on and going ham with it.

“This is Mick Fleetwood gone AWOL,” said Fleetwood. “We’d made this jam song. The crazy jungle beat is very much a Mick staple diet.”

2. “Go Your Own Way”

One of Mick Fleetwood’s favorite songs from Rumours also happens to be a fan favorite as well. “Go Your Own Way” is one of the band’s most recognizable tunes, and he said that it is one of his favorite tracks to perform live on stage because of how loose and energetic it is.

“I love playing this song,” said Fleetwood. “It’s one of my favourites because I get to kick the hell out of my drums, and it’s got that wonderfully primal part.”

3. “Walk A Thin Line”

This 1979 tune is a little underrated in the grand scheme of Fleetwood Mac’s discography, but Fleetwood hasn’t forgotten about it. He noted that it was one of the best efforts on Tusk and that he liked it so much that he even recorded a rendition of “Walk A Thin Line” for his solo album, The Visitor.

“I had the greatest time playing with these musicians on this rendition of this particular song,” said Fleetwood of his African-based cover of the song.

4. “Oh Daddy”

This Christine McVie classic was written for Mick Fleetwood, so it only makes sense that he’d list it as one of his favorites. Surprisingly, he didn’t even realize the song was about him at first. Looking back, Fleetwood noted that he loved the blues vibe of the song and enjoyed performing it with McVie.

“I’m a sucker for this one because it really is a structured song, which is so appealing to me as a player,” said Fleetwood.
