Green Day Pauses Detroit Show Due to Possible Security Issue, Apologizes To Fans for Delay

Green Day were forced to pause their Detroit show on September 4 due to a possible security issue after an unauthorized drone showed up. The band was playing Comercia Park Stadium during a stop on their Saviors Tour, and had to pause in the middle of the song “Longview” and clear the stage.

However, after the security issue was resolved, they resumed the song and finished the set. Frontman Billie Joe Armstrong had some choice words for whoever was controlling the drone while performing “Welcome to Paradise.” According to a report from Music News, he told the crowd, “Ain’t no motherf—er that’s gonna stop us, I’ll tell you that.”

Green Day took to social media following the show to apologize to fans for the delay. The band wrote on Twitter, “Detroit! Sorry for the delay in the show tonight, Stadium security had us clear the stage while they dealt with a potential safety issue. DPD quickly resolved the situation, and we were able to continue. Thanks for understanding.”

Green Day Pulled Offstage by Security During Detroit Show, Fans Remain Generally Supportive

Many Green Day fans were supportive of the band following the show, expressing relief that the issue wasn’t more serious. They also shared love for the band and for their experience at the concert. However, there were some who took a political stance against Green Day due to the band frequently sharing their views. These people took to social media to rail against the band for leaving the stage, but a video of the moment shows what happened.

Michigan senator Dayna Polehanki posted a short clip of the moment from yesterday’s concert on Twitter. In the clip, it appears that Mike Dirnt was pulled off stage by security. Billie Joe Armstrong can be seen looking stage left for a moment, before he follows his bandmate. Tre Cool also leaves his drum kit a moment later and heads offstage.

According to fans in the comments of Green Day’s apology, the crowd was left wondering what happened for around 30 minutes. Still, most fans expressed their support for the band. “Was still an amazing concert! Last time I saw yall was 2009 was my first concert ever! Y’all kicked butt tonight!” wrote one fan.

Another commented, “U guys were amazing tonight in Detroit. Such a great show! Setlist was so good. Nonstop 37 songs other than the security mishap. Definitely gave the fans what we came for.”
