Artists Breaking Records at 2024 MTV VMAs
Currently, Beyoncé is the leading winner of the MTV VMAs, with a total of 27 Moonpersons. However, Taylor Swift is quickly gaining. With a current total of 23 awards, winning just five categories would put Swift ahead of Queen Bey. If she wins all 10, it will make it all the harder for anyone to catch up with her as the most awarded artist in the history of the VMAs.
Eminem might break a record at the VMAs if he wins as well. He just might become the most awarded male artist if he breaks his tie with Peter Gabriel. Each of them have 13 awards. Additionally, if Eminem wins the Best Hip-Hop award, he’ll break the record set by Nicki Minaj, the reigning champion of VMA Hip-Hop awards.
In Latin music, Anitta is looking to set a consecutive record after winning Best Latin awards in 2023 and 2022. If she wins another award this year, she’ll be the most-awarded female artist in the Latin Music categories. Additionally, she would tie with J Balvin for most awarded Latin artist at the VMAs.
Artist of the Year is a coveted award, and one that multiple artists are aiming to set a record with. The category was introduced in 2017, and since then, no artist has won the award twice. This year, however, there are multiple contenders. Bad Bunny, Ariana Grande, and Taylor Swift are in the running. Bad Bunny won in 2022, Grande won in 2019, and Swift won in 2023. Potentially, any of these three artists would set a monumental record if they won Artist of the Year again.
Overall, the MTV VMAs are shaping up to be a great show, with Sabrina Carpenter and Chappell Roan among the performers. Additionally, Megan Thee Stallion was recently revealed as the host of the 2024 awards.
