Most of the world knows or has already listened to Post Malone’s new debut country album, F-1 Trillion. It took over the music world by storm before its release and continues to do so after it. That being so, it seems there is nothing new to be discovered about this album. However, that could not be farther from the truth.

On the day of its release, Apple Music released an interview with Malone discussing the intricacies of the release. Particularly, the creative process that took place in the studio. Sitting down with Apple Music reporter, Kelleigh Bannen, Malone lays it all out on the table and provides fans with a candid and honest testament to the album’s creation.
“Inaccessible” to Malone
Malone has always expressed his ambition to create a country album. Although, Malone told Bannen, “For the longest time it seemed so inaccessible because I don’t know how the hell it works.” The “it” Malone refers to is the recording atmosphere of Nashville—Studio musicians, sampling of works, and other facets unique to country music. Once Malone was aided by David Cohen and Larry Franklin, a switch flipped and he grasped what the process entailed.
In addition to getting around the learning curve, the process completely subverted Malone’s original beliefs. In the studio, Malone articulated the spontaneous and impromptu nature of the sessions, stating, “All the buddies came in and we all just drank and f****** tossed s*** around.”
Malone’s “Buddies”
The “buddies” Malone speaks of are HARDY, the producers, and the vast amount of writers sitting in on each session. That said, the company Malone wrote with attributed to the large track list and diverse array of songs on the album. Specifically on “Hide My Gun,” Malone specifically thanks Hardy for the song’s melody. Malone said to Bannen, “HARDY has such a cool melodic thing that he does” and that he has “such a cool way that he approaches melody and writing songs.”
Despite the large number of collaborations leading to the production of the album. It is also these relationships that helped Malone not view this project as the daunting endeavor it was. In the good graces of country music experts, Malone was able to receive their advice and then fully appreciate the process it takes to record a country album. Closing out the interview with outstanding praise for the business. Post Malone joyfully expressed, “It was such a fresh thing” and “I’m so f****** pumped.”
