No matter what this weekend’s plans look like or what mood one is in, the list below has the perfect soundtrack. For instance, Post Malone technically released two new country albums today. First he released his debut. Then, hours later, he released the deluxe edition of the album. Then, there’s the live record from bluegrass great Dan Tyminsski and a new one from country music mainstay Josh Turner.

Standout Albums

We’re flooded with great new music today. Malone showed what he was really made of with the deluxe edition of his country debut. The songwriting on Morgan Wade’s new album is nearly unmatched. Then, there are artists like Ray LaMontagne and the previously mentioned Tyminski who never cease to amaze listeners. However, today’s slots in the standout albums category go to Muscadine Bloodline and Pony Bradshaw.

The evolution of Alabama-based duo Muscadine Bloodline has been an interesting thing to watch. Their 2020 debut album saw them releasing radio-ready pop-country. Then, they moved away from that with their 2022 sophomore release. They’ve gotten further away from the sound of their debut with each release. Their new album, The Coastal Plain sees the band sounding more “country” than ever before.

Standout Tracks: “Tickets to Turnpike” “Good in This World” “Pay Me No Mind”

Pony Bradshaw released what is arguably the best new country album of the month if not the year. Thus Spoke the Fool is full of the vignettes of Appalachia that populated Calico Jim and North Georgia Rounder. Instead of telling autobiographical stories in his songs, Bradshaw snatches stories from his North Georgia home and tells them through a creative lens.

Between Bradshaw’s expert storytelling and the bluegrass-tinged instrumentation, Thus Spoke the Fool has a sense of place. Listening to the album with closed eyes is like being transported to a front porch deep in the mountains as a family band picks, grins, and sings to the birds in the tall pines.

Standout Tracks: “Housebroke” “In the Cinnamon Glow” “Rebel”
