“Meditation Mixes” of John Lennon’s Hit “Mind Games,” Produced by Son Sean Lennon, to Be Featured on Vinyl and Digital Releases

A unique collection of John Lennon remixes created in conjunction with the recent deluxe reissue of the late Beatles legend’s 1973 solo album Mind Games will be released as a standalone album on October 11. Mind Games – The Meditation Mixes features nine reimagined versions of the album’s hit title track produced by Sean Ono Lennon, John and Yoko Ono’s only child.

The album will available in digital formats, and as a limited-edition three-LP set pressed on 180-gram, crystal-clear vinyl. The LP collection will feature a triple-gatefold mirror board sleeve. The second side of the album’s third LP will feature nine 1.8-second mantras. These mantras will play continually in the disc’s run-out grooves, creating infinite loops.

The nine mixes originally debuted in May 2024 exclusively via Lumenate, a consciousness-expanding psychedelic meditation phone app.

The app utilizes a smartphone’s flashlight to produce varying frequencies of light that, in combination with the mixes, is designed to put the listener in a relaxed, meditative state.

The Mind Games – The Meditation Mixes were created using a variety of sound-design techniques and processes that have been applied to the original multitrack recording of “Mind Games.” Sean added new instrumentation to some of the mixes. The tracks were mixed by recording engineer Sam Gannon, with assistance from Scott Hollingsworth.

The mixes are titled “Mind,” “Magic,” “Space,” “Seed,” “Yes,” “Spirit,” “Love,” “Surrender,” and “Peace.”

The “Yes” mix is available now via the 24-96 HiRes Stereo and Dolby Atmos/Spatial Audio formats.

Sean Lennon’s Statement About the Meditation Mixes

“You might say meditation is the ultimate mind game. These very abstract interpretations will hopefully assist you in exploring your ‘Innerverse,’” Sean said in a statement of Mind Games – The Meditation Mixes. “I was both thrilled and surprised when [Universal Music Group] said they wanted to make a vinyl edition. This part of the Mind Games project evolved spontaneously and feels like it is sprinkled with just the right amount of good vibes and fairy dust. (Effects may vary).”

About the Mind Games Album

Released in October 1973, the 12-song Mind Games was John Lennon’s fourth studio effort. The album reached No. 9 on the Billboard 200. It yielded one hit single, the title track, which peaked at No. 18 on the Hot 100 singles chart.

Details About the Mind Games – The Ultimate Collection Reissues

As previously reported, the Mind Games – The Ultimate Collection reissues were released in July. The expanded editions feature remixed audio, with Deluxe and Super Deluxe versions offering a deep dive into the album sessions.

The Deluxe and Super Deluxe versions of Mind Games present each song from the album in multiple forms, including new mixes, rough demos, outtakes, and more.

Both Deluxe and Super Deluxe box sets feature six CDs and two Blu-ray discs. The CDs feature Ultimate Mixes, Elements Mixes, Elemental Mixes, Out-takes, Raw Studio Mixes, and Evolution Documentary mixes. The Blu-rays boast three high-res versions of the audio featured on the CDs, plus additional content.

The Super Deluxe edition is presented in a 13-inch clear plastic cube that’s a replica of Yoko Ono’s 1966 “Danger Box” art piece. The cube houses nine interlocking boxes of various sizes and shapes that offer a variety of hidden secrets, surprises, and puzzles.

The package includes the CDs and Blu-rays; a seven-LP vinyl version of the collection; and several other box-set presentations.

Only 1,100 copies of the limited-edition release will be available worldwide.
