Koe Wetzel Kicks off Damn Near Normal World Tour With an “Eye Watering” Cover of Garth Brooks’ “The Dance”

Just last month, Koe Wetzel celebrated the release of his newest album 9 Lives. Having released numerous albums before, the country singer caused a mountain of backlash due to his songs and the subject matter that surround them. Not to mention, Wetzel isn’t afraid to add some explicit language to his songs. Considered to be a mix between country and rock, the singer recently kicked off his Damn Near Normal World Tour in his home state of Texas. And wanting to make the night memorable, Wetzel decided to channel Garth Brooks when he covered “The Dance.”

A top name in country music, Brooks produced more than a couple of hit songs. And when wanting to cover his rich history in music, there are more than a few great songs to pick from. But for Wetzel, he set his eyes on “The Dance.” Growing up with country music in his home, Wetzel credited his mother for introducing him to the genre. He recalled how she would stroll around the house singing Patsy Cline. As for his cover of Brooks, Wetzel took a break from the thrills of a live concert to give a simple performance and fans absolutely loved it.

Fans loved Wetzel’s rendition, with many pleading for the full version to make it to streaming services. Other commenters highlighted the emotions behind the lyrics and performance. “Koe Wetzel is eye watering but Garth Brooks is a whole box of tissues.” Another fan wrote, “water works.”

Koe Wetzel Shares His Love For Whataburger That Led To His Arrest

Besides carving out his own place in country music, Wetzel also found himself on the wrong side of the law before. Arrested at a Taco Bell back in 2016, the country singer recently recalled how he really wanted Wataburger back in 2018. But at the time, he was in the city of Nacogdoches, Texas. With it being 4:00 a.m. at the time, Wetzel didn’t bother with taxis or Ubers as he simply walked to the location three miles away.

Discussing the events that followed, Wetzel said, “So I’m like you know, f*** it. I’m gonna walk to Whataburger. And I get all the way to Whataburger and I’m looking, I’m trying to cross the street … as soon as I did reds and blues turned on and I was like, ‘sh**.’” While pulling him over, Wetzel recalled how he asked one of the officers to take him back to his hotel. The officer had other plans as he drove him to the local jail. Thankfully, the country singer was released later that morning.

Knowing the country singer, the officers didn’t want to forget the moment and it appears they had the perfect way to remember. “As I’m walking out they had printed out my mugshot and I signed it for them. Yeah, it was cool.” He insisted, “’Yeah I’m done going to jail.’”
