“Lainey Wilson Highway”: Mayor Reveals Major Tribute Plans to Honor the Homegrown Country Star

Insisting that “Country is cool again”, Lainey Wilson took over the genre with hit songs like “Heart Like A Truck.” Besides releasing five studio albums, the country star also won numerous awards, including a Grammy for Best Country Album. And that is just the beginning of her stardom as she also appeared in the hit show Yellowstone. Continuing to expand her career in country music, it appears that her hometown of Baskin, Louisiana is set to dedicate a highway in her honor.

With her mother a schoolteacher and her father a farmer, Wilson‘s childhood surrounded a town that barely had 250 people. Sharing a love for music at a young age, it seems the singer already knew what she wanted to do with her life. And when she received the chance to visit the Grand Ole Opry, Wilson insisted she would be a country singer. And now, she is not only a country singer but sits on top of the genre. Wanting to celebrate her accomplishments, the mayor of Baskin, George Curtis, revealed a portion of the Louisiana Highway 15 will be named after the singer.

Mayor Of Baskin Praises Lainey Wilson

Speaking with Country Now about the upcoming celebration for Wilson, Curtis explained, “This is just out of respect for Lainey. She’s just so big in country music, she loves her hometown. We are super blessed. She just represents us so well. This is something that’s needed to be done for a very long time. Mr. Bill actually took action to put it into force with help from the representatives and the senator. So I’m just super thankful for Mr. Bill to step up and take the bull by the horns and get the job done.”

The Mr. Bill that Curtis was referring to happened to be one of the sponsors of the new signs. The Owner of Amethyst Construction, Mr. Bill gained support from Senator Womack, and representatives Francis Thompson and Neil Riser.

Besides thanking the sponsors, Curtis once again turned his attention to Wilson, admitting, “We are super proud of her. We love to acknowledge Lainey and I’m just glad that this has finally moved forward and we’re just waiting on the sign placements.”

While placing numerous signs around town, celebrating Wilson, the town is also preparing a ceremony to honor the country star. And given her love for Baskin, the country star and her family have been invited.
