Wolfgang Van Halen Gets Candid on David Lee Roth Not Liking Him

Although getting the chance to perform with his father in Van Halen, Wolfgang Van Halen eventually focused on a solo career. While loving his time on the stage with Eddie Van Halen, the musician passed away in 2020, leading to Van Halen’s disbandment. Joining Van Halen at just 15 years old, Wolfgang performed alongside some of the most legendary performers in rock and roll. Enjoying the opportunities given to him, Wolfgang recently discussed how Van Halen singer David Lee Roth made a series of videos seeming to take aim at the musician.

Appearing on the WTF With Marc Maron podcast, Wolfgang explained his ongoing beef with Roth. Although Roth made YouTube videos criticizing him, the musician admitted, “I thought we were on good terms, and he actually made a couple of YouTube videos about me, about how much he doesn’t like me, which was, like, ‘Okay, cool man.’”

Trying to understand what led to the videos and if there is any truth, Wolfgang insisted, “He basically just said a bunch of stuff that was true to him, I guess. It doesn’t matter if it’s not true because the people that are going to listen to it will believe it and use it to hate me anyway. So you’ve just gotta move forward.”

Pointing back to the passing of his father, Wolfgang added, “I think the big thing, one of the bigger things is that my dad isn’t around. So I think he just went for what’s still there to kind of point at.”

David Lee Roth Shares His Thoughts On Wolfgang Van Halen

Only wanting to perform on stage and make music, Wolfgang shared the turbulent relationship between his father and Roth. “I don’t know what it is with ’80s bands. There’s always f**king something. I’ve kind of used it as my own… just, like, I don’t want this to happen. So it’s, like, for my band, it’s, like, why can’t we just have a good time and just be happy and make music? Like, is it that f**king difficult?”

As for Roth, he noted his disdain for Wolfgang back in January when he released a video claiming the musician constantly complained, “This f**kin’ kid. he’s complaining the entire tour like I’m not paying enough attention to him on stage. He’s complaining to everybody around me — the business manager, the security guy, the clothing lady — ‘Dave’s not paying enough attention to me.’”

While giving his side of the story, Wolfgang appears to want no part in the past as he continues to look ahead to his future.
