Zac Brown Faces Lawsuit from Estranged Wife Kelly Yazdi Over “Beautiful Drug” Music Video

Zac Brown and Kelly Yazdi tied the knot in 2023. Four months later, in late December, they released a joint statement telling the world they were parting ways. Since then, Brown and Yazdi have gone back and forth in court. Earlier this year, he sued her over an Instagram post. Now, she’s suing him over the band’s latest video.

The latest lawsuit stems from Zac Brown Band’s latest music video for the Avicii remix of “Beautiful Drug.” Released earlier this year, Yazdi claims that Brown tried to defame her with the video. According to reports, she claims that the music video includes footage of their wedding party and at least one photo of her. Additionally, she accused her estranged husband of purposely hiring a model that bears a “striking resemblance” to her.

That model, she said, “Is depicted as being an illegal drug-using, promiscuous, reckless abuser of alcohol.” Her lawyer stated, “Based on information and belief, the model in the music video was selected based on her similar appearance to Ms. Yazdi-Brown. … Based on information and belief, the video was designed to paint Ms. Yazdi-Brown in a false light.”

The suit read, “The implication that Ms. Yazdi-Brown behaves promiscuously, recklessly, irresponsibly, unprofessionally, and uses illegal drugs would be highly offensive to a reasonable person. The music video has damaged Ms. Yazdi-Brown by injuring her reputation in other ways.”

Zac Brown Band’s Video Uses Footage from 2018

An insider reported that claims made in Kelly Yazdi’s lawsuit are false. “The notion that this video has any correlation to Kelly is not only unfounded but ridiculous,” they said. “The video was shot and created by Zac Brown Band’s creative director in August 2018, long before Zac even knew Kelly,” they added.

It appears that many shots from the video for “Beautiful Drug” were pulled from a short film titled Don’t Forget Me. Those shots feature the striking dark-haired model partying. So, it would seem that the insider’s statement holds weight. However, it remains unclear if any footage from the wedding party appeared in the music video.
