The expanded edition includes the songs “Ruthless,” “Little Sister,” “Flower Child,” “Superbloom” with Leon Bridges, “Perfection” with Tiny Habits, “Arm’s Length,” and “Irish Goodbye.”
“Ruthless” paints a picture of everything Kacey Musgraves would do to protect someone she cares about. If anyone tried to hurt you / I would be ruthless for you, she sings, and elsewhere, I don’t believe in violence / But you know I won’t be silent / I’m a lover not a fighter.
“Little Sister,” meanwhile, is a beautiful ode to Musgraves’ relationship with her younger sister. It has a similar thread to “Ruthless” in that Musgraves would do anything for her sister even though they’re very different. She’s the bigger person / My little sister, she sings. We didn’t always want to, but we shared / And I know that we’re so different, but who cares. Everyone needs to send this song to their little sister right now.
The next track, “Flower Child,” is a great reminder for creatives that Life is a garden if you open your eyes. Musgraves sings, It ain’t easy to grow / And it can make you feel like / You don’t know anything anymore, and she hits the nail on the head once again, as she is wont to do. Life is tough sometimes, but there are also beautiful things in it.

Kacey Musgraves Continues Her Habit of Capturing Unique Emotions Perfectly in Deluxe Version of Deeper Well
“Superbloom,” featuring Leon Bridges, is a light, airy duet that highlights a friendship, partnership, or just relationships in general—the support that comes from having someone by your side when things get low.
Meanwhile, “Perfection,” featuring Tiny Habits, is another song that highlights relationships and support. Perfection / I don’t need it / I just need / Your affection, she sings in the first chorus, and Perfection / I don’t need it / All I need / Is protection, in the second. “Perfection” is a groovy, meandering song that’s okay with imperfection, and is looking for connection, and protection.
“Arm’s Length” takes listeners on a ride through a doomed love, where Kacey Musgraves sings, I treated you like a king / Even kingdoms fall. However, she’s grateful for the end of the relationship, as she then sings, You did me a favor / Even though it hurt / I guess even my savior complex / Couldn’t make it work. There are moments where she claims she Should have known / That forever was never a hill you could die on. In this way, as she sings, I couldn’t love you / Into loving me.
