Halsey Shares Regret Over Returning to Music, Claims Some Fans Are “Meaner to Me Than Any Other People on the Planet”

In a recent Tumblr post, Halsey shared some regrets over returning to music, claiming that some of her fans are “meaner to me than any other people on the planet.” Halsey has been quietly dealing with multiple medical diagnoses in the time since her last album, If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power from 2021. She was diagnosed with lupus this June, as well as Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, Sjogren’s syndrome, mast cell activation syndrome, and postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) in 2022.

Now, as they prepares for a new album, there are a lot of things about returning to music that Halsey regrets. One of those things is negative interactions from fans.

Continuing her post on Tumblr, Halsey wrote, “Not speaking for all of you, of course. But it used to be just a minority that were awful to me and now it seems like a majority have only stuck around to chime in occasionally with their opinion of how much they hate me or how awful I am.

“[I]t’s hard to want to engage in a space that is completely devoid of any kindness, sympathy, patience; or to be honest human decency,” she continued. “Especially after years of hiding from the interactions for fear that this EXACT thing would happen.”

Halsey Opens Up About Health Struggles In Tumblr Post, Shares Regret At Return

Halsey then briefly opened up about her struggles, stating simply, “I almost lost my life. I am not gonna do anything that doesn’t make me happy anymore. I can’t spiritually afford it.

“When I got sick all I could think about was getting better so I could come back and be a part of THIS again, but I don’t even know what *this* is anymore and I want to crawl in a hole and I regret coming back,” they concluded.

Backlash also came when Halsey released her latest single, “Lucky,” which interpolates “Lucky” by Britney Spears and “Angel of Mine” by Monica. The former interpolation was the subject of a since-deleted tweet from Spears, who claimed she was “upset about the Halsey video” and felt “harassed, violated, and bullied.”

However, Spears deleted the tweet and claimed she didn’t post it. “That was not me on my phone!!” she wrote, adding, “I love Halsey and that’s why I deleted it.” Halsey replied to the amended tweet, writing to Spears, “you were the first person who ever made me realize what it means to feel inspired. And you continue to inspire me everyday.”
