“Hideous” Sinéad O’Connor Wax Figure To Be Replaced After Brother’s Public Backlash

RAlthough passing away in July 2023, Sinéad O’Connor left behind a musical career that continues to showcase her amazing talent. Throughout her career on stage, the singer released ten studio albums. Her last, I’m Not Bossy, I’m The Boss, hit shelves back in 2014. She even appeared in several movies and television shows. While not afraid to share her opinions, the singer received a great deal of backlash for her beliefs. But wanting to honor O’Connor, the National Wax Museum in Dublin decided to add a wax figure of her. The only problem, many, including the singer’s brother, criticized the finished product.

Barely a day after the wax museum unveiled the figure, it seems they are taking it down and recreating it. O’Connor’s brother, John, opened up about his feelings on the figure, telling Liveline, “When I saw it online yesterday I was shocked. I thought it looked something between a mannequin and something out of the Thunderbirds.“

Not stopping there, John continued, “I thought Sinéad would have been very fond of looking well, and she certainly did, and if it was supposed to be a representation of her in her early 20s when she did Nothing Compares 2 U, it just looked nothing like her. I thought it was hideous.”

Wax Museum Apologizes For Botched Sinéad O’Connor Wax Figure

Following the backlash received from fans, the National Wax Museum in Dublin released its own statement, apologizing for the mishap. “In response to the public’s feedback regarding the wax figure, we acknowledge that the current representation did not meet our high standards or the expectations of Sinéad’s devoted fans. We have listened closely to the reactions and agree that the figure does not fully capture Sinéad’s unique presence and essence as we intended.”

Not wanting to waste time making the figure represent O’Connor better, the museum insisted, “Our team of skilled artists will begin this project immediately, ensuring that every detail is meticulously crafted to celebrate her legacy appropriately.”

With the museum already working on a better version, only time will tell if the artists truly capture the look and legacy of O’Connor.
